FAQs

Associated Counseling Professionals

  • How long is each session?

Our standard counseling sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes. While sessions may occasionally extend slightly beyond this time, we maintain buffers between appointments to ensure accurate documentation, brief administrative tasks, and preparation for subsequent clients. This scheduling structure allows us to maintain consistency throughout the day and respect all clients' appointment times. Extended sessions are available at an adjusted billing rate. We strongly encourage you to discuss session length options directly with your assigned therapist.
  • Do I need a referral before being seen at ACP?

A referral is typically not required. We welcome individuals who are seeking personal growth and are committed to making positive changes in their lives. However, if you are currently receiving therapy elsewhere, we recommend discussing your situation with your existing provider first. An open conversation about your progress and expectations can help determine whether continuing with your current therapist, transitioning to our practice, or receiving supplemental services while maintaining your primary therapeutic relationship would best serve your needs. Additionally, please verify your insurance requirements, as certain carriers mandate prior authorization for mental health services either before or within 24 hours of your initial appointment. While our staff will assist with this process, understanding your coverage details beforehand will help prevent unexpected costs.
  • I do not have any health insurance, what are the fees?

For clients without insurance coverage, the standard appointments are $240. Psychiatric services provided by our nurse practitioners follow a separate fee structure. Please contact our office directly for detailed information regarding those services.
  • What insurance companies are covered?

We maintain contracts with most major insurance carriers, including United Health Care, Mutual of Omaha, Coventry, Aetna, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and Midlands Choice, among others. To verify your specific coverage, you may review your outpatient mental health benefits directly with your insurance provider or contact our office for assistance with benefit verification. Please note that we do not participate in any Employee Assistance Program networks.
  • Do I have to pay or will your office bill me?

Payment of your deductible and any applicable co-payment or co-insurance amount is required at the time services are rendered.
  • Do you prescribe medication at your office?

Psychiatric medication services are available through our on-site Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Naomi Kigondu, APRN, who provides comprehensive medication assessment and treatment. Please contact our office for scheduling details. We also facilitate coordinated care arrangements with psychiatrists throughout the Omaha metropolitan area when appropriate. Discuss your medication management needs with your therapist to determine how we can best support your treatment.
  • Is there a set number of sessions for marriage counseling or any other type of counseling? How often do we need to come in?

Treatment plans are individualized based on each client's unique circumstances and therapeutic goals. Our counselors assess your specific situation to determine the appropriate number of sessions and frequency of appointments that will provide the most effective care for your needs.
  • Do you have counselors that see small children?

Emily Lichter, Todd Kerr, and Glen Fineman provide services for young children. Alex Machuca works with children ages thirteen and older.
