About Alex Machuca
Alex graduated with his Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nebraska Omaha. In addition to his experience as an individual and couples therapist, he has experience working with Hillcrest’s No One Dies Alone program as well as experience as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) working with children in foster care.
Utilizing counseling modalities like CBT, Transactional Analysis, Solution Focused, Gottman Couples, and Christian Counseling (if desired) Alex will work with you to create a lifestyle that will best leverage your life to create a foundation in healthy relationships, cultivating a ripple effect on each key area of your life (physically, mentally/emotionally, spiritually, and life purpose). He enjoys working with adults, adolescents, couples/families, and people from wide-ranging socio-economic, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds to rework thinking patterns, behaviors, and self-talk to create a healthy life balance and an opportunity to find the fulfillment and richness that life has waiting for them. Depression, trauma, divorce/marital issues, loss, anxiety, addiction, and faith-based issues are some of the several areas of life that he works with.
Alex is especially proud of his work in these areas: Anxiety, Marital and Premarital Counseling. He’s very familiar with helping those who are challenged by traumatic life events and PTSD. He has expertise in helping people master Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Alex is trained to use ART, or Accelerated Resolution Therapy – a type of psychotherapy designed to help people process trauma quickly and effectively. ART helps people reframe traumatic memories, so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical reactions. The memory itself isn’t erased, but the emotional charge around it is reduced or removed.
